This tired old vintage nightgown had very worn-out, thin fabric on the back, so I decided for this ( ok I started last week...) Monday Mending to test my hand sewing skills and do some visible mending/darning to fix it!

I wanted to try something different and explore the idea that mending doesn't just have to be functional.

But, it can in fact be decorative and add to the overall aesthetic appeal!

Have you ever attempted visible mending like this? How did it turn out?

What is Monday Mending? If you want to add more sustainable fashion practices and have a little prompt, join us! Every Monday just pick at least one item from that huge mending pile and just get it done! Use #mondaymending on your own pictures so we can all be inspired!

And most importantly, to keep yourself accountable, tell me below what are you going to/have mended this Monday?

Until next time...

I periodically let my needle dangle to unwind it. I know if you’re consistent in how you are holding the needle, you can keep the thread straight, but I don’t seem able to do that!

I enjoy your videos greatly, Evelyn.
I darn a lot of my (and my adult children’s) clothing.
I find jeans and the thigh area the most difficult. I use to just darn the frayed areas, the more fraying would occur. So now I put a stretchy knit material on the inside to help reinforce my stitches end help support the worn surrounding areas. Would you have any suggestions to make this particular mending more natural looking?
